How it all began:

One day in the spring of 2005 an idea perculated in the heads of Green Frog Cafe owners James Hardesty and Nate Carlson, that would be rivaled in brightness only by the sun that beat down on the two Bellingham natives. As they toiled through the afternoon installing chainlink fence, a decision was made to attempt to purchase thier favorite tavern, the Key Nor' West (now sadly defuct). That evening the offer was made and, in quick reciprocation, turned down.

Not to be dissuaded (or perhaps too stubborn to take "no" for an answer) the pair hatched a brand new plan; they would open their very own establishment! Within days they had spotted the perfect site. It was small with high cielings and had an alley entrance. Perfect. They quickly signed a lease and in just a few short weeks were on their way to creating a truly unique tavern. Unfortunately, the neighboring businesses, which lacked both foresight and common sense, persuaded the City of Bellingham to deny a request for a tavern license. Grrrrrr.

What looked to be a K.O. shot to the jaw turned out to be the move that spurred the duo into action, quickly finding a new location and the current site of Green Frog Cafe Acoustic Tavern. Several months later, after enjoying the effects of a giant learning curve, Hardesty and Carlson opened the doors of the Green Frog on November 17, 2005 and haven't looked back since.

Starting with 11 taps and a metric crapload of bottled beers the Green Frog instantly established itself as a beverage slingin' force to be reckoned with. As time went on the bottles were removed in order to make room for more taps, which now number 23. With a focus on West Coast beers, there is no other bar in the area that can compete with the selection.
